Kelly cottages are two bungalow houses situated on the narrow strip of land which runs between the mountains and the northern of Clew Bay, near Mulranny. They sit overlooking the lovely bay and the surrounding countryside is made up of rolling hills (Drumlins) that were left behind by the receding ice sheets of the last ice age. They offer breath-taking views of Clew Bay with its numerous tiny islands.

The area has a rich history which is reflected in its many relics of bygone centuries. Local recreational facilities cater for all tastes and are ideally suited to group holidays or family.


Accommodation

The cottages, approved by the Irish Tourist Board, meet a three-star standard and feature a sitting room, kitchen/dining area, and bathroom with bath, shower and toilet. There are also rooms for drying and storing tackle. The cottages are furnished with all modern conveniences, including TV, microwave and dishwasher.

Because of our central location, we are ideally situated for self-catering groups, who wish to avail of facilities and we offer very attractive rate for groups, there are special weekend rates, and long stay and off peak period.

Kelly Cottages are a wonderful choice for an active or relaxing break in County Mayo.


Activities and Local Attractions

Mulranny has always been a popular tourist destination, very famous for its magnificent scenery and lovely beach. There is a plethora of outdoor activities visitors can choose from.

Fishing

The area is a haven for anglers. Clew Bay provides for deep sea and shore angling and its large range of species include mackerel, pollock, cod and skate.

Boats are readily available.

Fresh Water angling is well catered for with the River Owengarve and Lough Furnace and Lough Feeagh.

Golf

The village has a nine hole golf course situated on the sandy banks above the bay. Rates are reasonable and all are welcome.

Cycling

The area is excellent for cycling with miles of quiet by roads along the sea front. Within easy reach (500m) from the cottages the Great Western Greenway rolls passing through open farmland, bog and woodland.

Bicycles are available for hire from the proprietor.

Swimming

There is a lovely sandy beach beside the village with a guard on duty during the summer months, ideal for children and families.

Hill Walking

With 3500 hectares of rugged countryside untouched for the last 5000 years the area is ideal for hillwalking. This vast expanse stretches north, from within half a kilometre of cottages, to the Nephin Mountain range. Guided walks can be arranged by proprietor.

While staying at Kelly Cottage, visitors can also take tour historic sites such as Carrighahowly Castle, Burrishoole Abbey and Spanish Armada sites at Corraun and Ballycroy or discover highlights of the region: Ballycroy National Park, Westport and Newport are within easy reach.
